Your adventure begins before dawn with a private hotel pickup in Cusco around 4:00 AM. You'll travel by comfortable private transport through the Sacred Valley to Ollantaytambo train station.
Board the comfortable Expedition train service for a scenic journey along the Urubamba River. Enjoy breathtaking Andean landscapes as you head to Km 104 (Chachabamba), the official starting point of the Short Inca Trail.
Upon arrival at Km 104, you'll complete registration with park authorities. Your expert guide will provide a comprehensive briefing about the day's trek, safety protocols, and what to expect on this incredible journey.
Cross the Urubamba River and explore Chachabamba, a rarely-crowded and beautifully preserved Inca site featuring terraces, ceremonial fountains, and temples. Your guide will explain its historical significance and role in the Inca Empire.
Begin the main trekking challenge—a gradual 3-4 hour ascent on original Inca stone steps through lush cloud forest. Navigate steep sections, cross streams, and immerse yourself in the mystical beauty of the Andean jungle as you climb towards Wiñay Wayna.
Arrive at the spectacular ruins of Wiñay Wayna (2,600m/8,530ft), the most significant archaeological complex on the Short Inca Trail. This breathtaking site features impressive farming terraces carved into the steep hillside, ceremonial temples, and intricate stonework.
Enjoy your well-deserved, energizing gourmet box lunch surrounded by the majestic ruins and spectacular cloud forest views. Take this time to rest, recharge, and prepare for the final push to the Sun Gate.
Continue through lush subtropical vegetation on the final stage towards the legendary Sun Gate (Inti Punku), the traditional entrance to Machu Picchu. This rewarding hike culminates at the iconic viewpoint for your first emotional glimpse of the citadel bathed in late afternoon light.
Experience the most famous and emotional first view of Machu Picchu sprawling below from the Sun Gate—an unforgettable, breathtaking moment. Descend into the citadel to reach the classic postcard viewpoint for photos before exiting.
Take the short bus ride down the winding road from Machu Picchu to the town of Aguas Calientes. Check into your comfortable 3-star hotel and enjoy free time to explore the town or relax.
Enjoy a restorative dinner at a local restaurant before returning to your hotel for a well-deserved rest. Prepare for tomorrow's in-depth exploration of Machu Picchu.

Wake up early and enjoy breakfast at your hotel before heading to the bus station. An early start ensures you'll catch one of the first buses up to Machu Picchu.
Board one of the first buses up to the Inca citadel, beating the main crowds and witnessing the sunrise over the stone city as morning mist reveals the ancient ruins.
Embark on an in-depth, two-hour guided tour (Circuit #2 or #3) expertly navigating the most important sections of the archaeological site, including the Temple of the Sun, the Main Temple, the Intihuatana (Sun Stone), and the agricultural terraces. Learn about Machu Picchu's history, function, and enduring mystery.
After the guided tour, you'll have independent time to continue exploring, take photographs, and simply sit and absorb the powerful energy of this World Wonder. Optional: hike Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain if you booked permits in advance.
Take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes. You'll have free time to explore the town, enjoy lunch at your leisure (not included), browse artisan markets, or pick up last-minute souvenirs before your return train.
Board the comfortable Expedition train for your scenic return journey to Ollantaytambo. Relax and reflect on the incredible two-day adventure as you travel through the Sacred Valley.

Essential information for your Inca Trail adventure
Inca Trail permits are extremely limited and sell out months in advance, especially during peak season (May-September). We recommend booking at least 3-4 months ahead to guarantee availability.
Spend at least 2-3 days in Cusco (3,400m) before the trek. The trail reaches 2,730m at Wiñay Wayna and Sun Gate. Drink coca tea, stay hydrated, avoid alcohol, and ascend gradually to prevent altitude sickness.
Moderate fitness required. The trek involves 3-4 hours of uphill hiking on Inca stone steps through cloud forest. Train with cardio exercises, hiking, and stair climbing for 4-6 weeks before your trip.
Dry season (April-October) offers best conditions with clear skies. Rainy season (November-March) brings lush greenery but slippery trails. Pack layers—mornings are cold, afternoons warm. Always bring rain gear.
Mandatory for this trek. Ensure coverage includes trekking up to 3,000m, emergency evacuation, trip cancellation, and medical expenses. Keep policy documents accessible during the trek.
Bring your original passport (same one used for booking). Student discounts available with valid ISIC card. Permits are non-transferable and names must match passports exactly.
Pickup is around 4:00 AM. Prepare the night before: pack your daypack, charge devices, set multiple alarms. Go to bed early. The long day (15+ hours) is worth the effort for unforgettable views.
Bring 2-3 liters of water capacity. Refill stations are limited. Pack energy bars, trail mix, chocolate, and electrolyte tablets. Box lunch provided but extra snacks recommended for energy during the climb.
Respect this sacred site and UNESCO World Heritage area. Pack out all trash, stay on designated trails, don't touch ruins, and follow your guide's instructions. Help preserve the Inca Trail for future generations.
