Situated in the valley of Limatambo at 2,651-2,675m, this site was built by Pachacutec as a resting place or "tambo" for Incas traveling in the Chinchaysuyo (Eastern) area. Marvel at the massive granite platform walls, stone altar "usnu", agricultural terraces still in use today, and trapezoidal walls and niches as big as a human being.

A 2-hour hike from the community of Chonta takes you to this natural condor viewpoint at over 3,400m elevation. Along the dirt track, enjoy stunning scenery, valleys, and sacred mountains on the right banks of the Apurimac River. Watch the magnificent flight of Andean condors in their natural habitat, along with eagles, falcons, deer, foxes, and Andean chinchillas. The tour reaches 3,400m (11,155ft) at the Condor Viewpoint in Chonta. We strongly recommend spending at least 2 days in Cusco before this tour to acclimatize. Drink plenty of water, avoid heavy meals, and limit alcohol consumption.
This tour is suitable for most fitness levels. You'll walk on uneven terrain at the archaeological sites and archaeological sites. Comfortable walking shoes with good grip are essential. The total walking is approximately 8-10 km over 2 days throughout the day.

Everything you need to know about the Killarumiyoc, Chonta & Cusco tour
We pick you up from your hotel in Cusco between 7:30 - 8:00 AM. The tour ends around 7:00 PM on Day 2 when we drop you back at your hotel. The entire experience lasts 2 full days.
Yes! This tour is family-friendly and suitable for children ages 12 and up. The walking at Chonta Condor Viewpoint is moderate with some uphill sections. The archaeological sites are accessible for most ages. We recommend bringing snacks and water for the group.
On Day 1, lunch is served in the Chonta area with traditional Andean cuisine. Dinner and accommodation are in Curahuasi. On Day 2, lunch is in Curahuasi town. You will enjoy regional specialties including quinoa soup, local produce, and fresh ingredients from the valley. Vegetarian options available upon request.
The hike to the Condor Viewpoint in Chonta takes approximately 2 hours and reaches 3,400m altitude. The trail is moderate with some steep sections. Wear hiking boots with good grip and bring water. The other archaeological sites (Killarumiyoc, Tarawasi, Saywite) involve easier walking on maintained paths.
The Saywite Stone is a fascinating ceremonial monolith featuring an intricate carved replica of an Inca world in miniature, including mountains, terraces, rivers, and animal figures. Some researchers consider it a miniature representation similar to Machu Picchu. It is located near Curahuasi and is visited on Day 2 of this tour.
