Physical Preparation

This is a challenging 5-day trek reaching 4,630m altitude. Start training 2-3 months before with hiking, cardio exercises, and stair climbing. Build up to 6-8 hour hikes with a weighted pack.

Altitude Acclimatization

Spend at least 2-3 days in Cusco (3,400m) before the trek. Drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol, take it easy, and try coca tea. Consider altitude medication (consult your doctor).

Weather Conditions

Expect extreme temperature variations: -5°C at Salkantay Pass to 30°C in the jungle section. Be prepared for rain any time of year. Best months are April-October (dry season).

Vaccinations & Health

Consult your doctor about recommended vaccinations (Hepatitis A/B, Typhoid). Bring personal medications, altitude sickness pills (Diamox), and insect repellent with DEET for the jungle section.

Travel insurance is highly recommended. Ensure your policy covers high-altitude trekking (up to 5,000m), emergency evacuation, and medical expenses. Keep a copy of your policy accessible.
