Itinerary

Cusco - Pisaq - Urubamba - Ollantaytambo - Chinchero - Cusco

On this tour, you will be able to visit some of the most interesting places where the Incas built their temples, fortresses and Sacred Cities. This was due to the unnaturally warm climate and incredibly fertile valley, which produced many of the crops for the Inca empire. You will also learn about the history of the area and the Inca architecture. You will be able to gaze at the beautiful scenery including the river Vilcanota and the stunning snow peaks of the surrounding mountains.

The tour starts with your hotel pick-up at 7:30am. From here, we will first visit the ‘Awanacancha’ Project. This is a textile center which produces textiles using the traditional methods of the area and where we can see the local people, their Alpacas and how they produce the wool for their traditional weaving techniques.

Afterwards, we will continue following the Vilcanota River for a panoramic view of The Sacred Valley. We will visit the amazing archaeological site situated above the mountain called “Pisaqa”, after which we will visit the traditional market town of Pisaq, where we will have the opportunity to experience local customs of the native people.

After Pisaq, we will continue on to the market town of Urubamba, where we will have a buffet lunch in a popular local restaurant and where you can sample some of the local cuisine.

In the afternoon, we will continue our journey to the Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo, which was constructed to control the entrance into the Sacred Valley and protect from possible invasions from the local inhabitants of the high jungle regions, during Inca times. We will have the opportunity to walk through the characteristic narrow, cobbled streets of the town and get a clear idea about how this was a strategic military, religious and cultural center in Inca times.

On our return back to Cusco, we will visit the picturesque mountain town of Chinchero where we will find the remains of the hacienda of Tupac Inca Yupanqui. We can marvel at the amazingly preserved Inca walls in the principal plaza and we will visit the beautiful colonial temple with its interesting, fresh porches built over the base of an Inca construction.

More about this tour

Nestled in the heart of the Peruvian Andes, the Sacred Valley of the Incas (El Valle Sagrado de los Incas) is more than just a breathtaking landscape—it is a living museum of Inca civilization. This fertile river valley, carved by the Urubamba (Vilcanota) River, was the agricultural, spiritual, and political hub of the Inca Empire.

Our Classic Sacred Valley Tour is meticulously designed to immerse you in this rich history. You will walk in the footsteps of the Incas at the magnificent fortress of Ollantaytambo, a stunning example of Inca urban planning with its steep terraces and intricate stonework. Explore the vast archaeological complex of Pisac, perched high on a mountain ridge, known for its sophisticated terracing, intricate water channels, and ancient sun temple.

Beyond the ruins, the valley offers a vibrant cultural tapestry. You will experience the famous Pisac market, a colorful explosion of traditional textiles, handicrafts, and local produce, and visit the charming village of Chinchero, renowned for its well-preserved Inca walls, colonial church, and master weavers.

This tour is your perfect introduction to the wonders of the Cusco region, offering a profound connection to the history, culture, and majestic scenery that make the Sacred Valley an unmissable destination.

The tourist ticket or “Boleto Turistico” is necessary to be able to go on the Sacred Valley tour as this gives you entrance to most archaeological sites in Cusco and the sacred Valley Maras, Moray and most of the museums in the City of Cusco.

The full ticket costs 70 soles for Peruvian Nationals and 130 soles for foreign tourists and is valid for 10 days. This tourist ticket is issued by the Peruvian government and you can buy it at any of the sites on the ticket. There is also a partial ticket if you only wish to visit the Sacred Valley at a cost of 70 soles and is valid for 1 day.

WE INCLUDE THIS TICKET IN THE PRICE OF THE TOUR. Please let us know if you already have the Boleto turistico and we can deduct this cost from the price of your tour.
