Cusco - Mollepata - Soraymapma - Cusco
Your hotel pick-up will be an early one at 4:30am! Then, we will head off towards the North of Cusco, to Mollepata. This is a quaint, Andean town located at 2900m elevation and with an enjoyable climate. Here, we will stop for a buffet breakfast. You will be able to take in the beautiful scenery of the Apurimac valley.
After breakfast, we will continue along a dirt road for approximately 1 hour, to the village of Soraypampa. This is one of the traditional campsites on the Salkantay trek, situated at 3800m elevation. This is where we will start to trek to the Humantay Lake, which will take around 1 and a half hours. We will climb to an elevation of 4200m approx.
It is important that you are accplimatized to the high altitude! We recommend visitors to spend at least two days in Cusco before coming on this tour.Â
Once we reach the lake, you will have time to take photos of the stunning scenery and the turquoise lagoon with the backdrop of the glacier. You will also have the opportunity to take part in a mystical ceremony as homage to the sacred mountain Salkantay. We will then hike back, along the same route to Soraypampa to take our bus back to Cusco. We will have time for a buffet lunch at Mollepata and our guide will explain to us about some of the relics on display, found at archaeological sites in nearby areas.
We will arrive back in Cusco at approx. 5:30pm.
We recommend a good physical condition AND adequate acclimatization for this trek. (Minimum of 2 days in Cusco or at a similar altitude. Our guides will take a standard first aid kit and oxygen tank for emergencies.
* We recommend hiking boots or comfortable footwear as we will be walking along high-altitude mountain trails.
* Small day pack for your camera, sunhat, beany, sunblock and water, water bottles (reusable, not disposable), personal medical kit, extra money for souvenirs, drinks, tips, toilet paper
* Like all high mountain hiking we recommend a windbreaker and waterproof clothing as well as a dry T-shirt to change into for the journey back to Cusco. We also recommend that you take your preferred snacks for extra energy on the hike.
