The imperial route to the lost city
Cusco → Tambomachay → Lake Qoricocha → Huchuy QosqoDay 01
Your adventure begins with a private morning pickup from your hotel in Cusco, transporting you to the archaeological site of Tambomachay, the starting point of your trek. Here, you will leave the city behind and begin your ascent through the high Andean landscapes, surrounded by rolling ichu grass and native flora. The hike leads you toward the shimmering Lake Qoricocha, where you will pause to enjoy a freshly prepared lunch amidst the tranquility of the mountains, energizing you for the path ahead.
In the afternoon, the trail continues its descent past the traditional village of Pucamarca and through a spectacular canyon that showcases the raw beauty of the Andes. You will traverse a section of the original Inca Trail, walking in the footsteps of history as the vegetation transforms. As the sun begins to lower, you will arrive at the magnificent terraces of Huchuy Qosqo ("Little Cusco"), a site originally built as a royal estate, offering panoramic views of the Sacred Valley below.

The day concludes at our campsite located near the archaeological complex, where your team will have everything ready for your arrival. You will enjoy a hot, nutritious dinner prepared by our Andean chefs before settling into your comfortable tents. Under the vast, star-studded Andean sky, you will rest and recharge, surrounded by the silence and mystic energy of this ancient royal sanctuary.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Where do I store my main luggage during the trek?
You should not bring your large suitcases on the hike. You can safely leave your main luggage at your hotel in Cusco (most offer free storage) or at our office storage room. You should only bring the provided duffel bag with your trekking essentials.
Is drinking water provided during the trek?
Yes. You only need to bring enough water for the first morning of the hike. After lunch on Day 1, our cook will provide boiled and cooled water to refill your bottles at every mealtime and in the mornings. Please bring a reusable bottle or hydration bladder (2L capacity recommended).
I have a specific diet (Vegan/Gluten-Free/Allergies). Can you accommodate me?
Absolutely. Our chefs are trained to prepare delicious meals for all dietary requirements, including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and lactose-intolerant options. Please specify your dietary restrictions on your booking form so we can prepare the ingredients in advance.
What is the tipping etiquette for the crew?
While tipping is optional, it is a customary way to thank the support team for their hard work. A general guideline is 20-30 Soles for the horsemen, 40-60 Soles for the cook, and your discretion for the guide, usually pooled together by the group at the end of the trek.
Can I climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain on this tour?
Yes, but it requires advance planning. These hikes are extra climbs inside Machu Picchu and sell out months in advance. If you wish to add one of these, please email us immediately after booking to check availability and pay the surcharge.
