Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Is there electricity to charge my devices during the trek?
No, there is no electricity available at the campsites on Day 1 and Day 2. You will only be able to charge your devices once we reach the hotel in Aguas Calientes on Day 3. We strongly recommend bringing a high-capacity power bank (portable charger) to keep your phone and camera running.
How much money should I tip the field crew?
Tipping is a tradition in Peru and highly appreciated by the staff, though voluntary. As a general guideline per hiker:
• Porters/Horsemen: 40–60 Soles
• Chef: 60–80 Soles
• Guide: The amount is entirely up to your discretion based on performance.
Please bring small bills (Soles) for this.
What happens to my main luggage while I am on the trek?
You cannot take your large suitcases on the hike. You should store your main luggage at your hotel in Cusco (most offer free storage) or at our Peru Reservations office. You will only take the duffle bag we provide (max 7kg) and your daypack.
Is the water provided on the trail safe to drink?
Yes. From the first lunch onwards, we provide boiled and cooled water which is perfectly safe to drink. We do this to reduce plastic waste, so you must bring your own reusable water bottles or hydration bladder (Camelbak) to refill at meal times.
What if I am too tired to continue hiking?
Our groups are accompanied by emergency horses. If you feel exhausted or are struggling with the altitude, you can ride a horse for difficult sections of the trail to recover your strength. Your safety is our priority.
